Venturing into the Unknown

Venturing into the Unknown

Reflections on the homeopathic remedy Neon.

This month's theme is all all about venturing into the NEW - something we as artists do everyday.

Exploring uncharted waters on our canvases is part of the creative process after all. My creative business is shifting and changing in thrilling new ways. Lots of creative offerings are coming your way so watch this space. I also have very EXCITING NEWS. I'm delighted to announce the launch of my ONLINE ART GALLERY. Here you will find my original paintings.

In case you missed it, I've also added a HOMEOPATHY PAGE to my website. Starting this month, I will also be offering insights into remedies I find remarkable. Every remedy is a little universe on its own and would require several pages of explanation to give it due credit. I will be offering a glimpse into my remedy of choice, touching on its essence. This month's remedy Neon, ties in beautifully with our theme of voyaging into uncharted waters, so read on if you are intrigued to find out more.

I feel this year will be a transformative year on so many levels. How about you?

Quote of the month

'It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg.  We are like eggs at present.  And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg.  We must be hatched or go bad.'

(C.S. Lewis)

To venture into something implies taking a risk.

The homeopathic remedy, Neon fits into this month's theme of venturing into the NEW. Neon in fact means 'new one'. The second of the Noble Gasses, it lies at the end of Row 2 on the periodic table. The other elements on this Row include Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen and Fluorine. From a homeopathic perspective, each Row on the periodic table corresponds to a stage of human development, starting with conception in Row 1 to disintegration in Row 7. Row 2 corresponds to foetal life and the birth process. By way of analogy, Neon represents the stage of birth, when the baby is ready to leave the protection of the watery womb.  Seen from a different perspective, Neon is all about division into two. Every remedy can be understood by way of the tension of opposites that it presents. The dilemma for Neon, is whether the individual can feel content with this separation. For the patient who needs Neon floats in a world with no confines, a place where mother dissolves into child and sky melds with water. Terra firma is lacking. Indeed, Neon longs to break free from this watery cocoon. Can Neon survive on its own and stand firmly on solid ground is the question that poses itself. In essence, the Neon patient must come to terms with a divided, material universe and the duality it entails.

Neon's symbol on the periodic table is (Ne) and its atomic number is 10. This colourless and odourless gas is created in high-mass stars, during the alpha process when helium is fused with oxygen. When excited electrically, it emits a brilliant red colour, which can turn blue by adding a small amount of mercury. It was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers in 1898.

The homeopathic proving of this remedy was conducted by Jeremy Sherr. In his book Neon, Sherr says, the proving of Neon demonstrates, "...how our physical, mental and moral alignment with the universal source directly affects the way we live our life, and conversely, how the various angles which we incline away from it create our pathology."

Interestingly, Neon yearns to connect with the stars and may display a fascination for the heavens above. From the proving we find, "I just long for some clear nights so I can see my stars. If I could reconnect, then everything would be all right." The Flammarion engraving encapsulates the spirit of this remedy beautifully.

The Flammarion Engraving

Essentially this remedy type feels trapped inside a cosmic egg, from which the patient yearns to break free. The firmament poses a barrier, preventing the inflow of universal limitless energy. In this state the person who needs this remedy may feel very lethargic, rushed, depressed, agitated, disconnected and discontented. On the physical level, the firmament corresponds to the skin. Neon cases often pose with itching conditions and skin eruptions. If only there was a window in the sky through which Source could flow into Neon. The proving illustrates the location of this window:

"My head above my eyes cleared. It felt like a very wide opening from the top of my head outwards. I felt a total synchronicity....It was effortless."

Aligning with Source

In order to access this unlimited Universal energy forever available directly above us, we must align ourselves with it. The theme of alignment runs through all of the noble gasses, including Helium, Argon, Krypton, Xenon and Radon. In contrast all the other elements in the periodic table aspire to the nobles' uprightness, but can only do so by means of chemical interactions. When Neon is vertically aligned, there is no division of space or time. Subsequently, there is a feeling of limitless energy at one's disposal. The proving brought this out very clearly. This is how some of the provers described it:

"I feel invincible when upright. No wavering - like a laser."

or

"I new feel very upright in space and am aware that before, I was at a slight tilt - both physically and morally. The whole proving can be described as a rectification."

On the positive end of the spectrum, Neon feels blissfully free and in the moment. There is a sense of great agility, ease as well as mental clarity and creativity. At very best this euphoric state translates as a feeling of oneness and invincibility. The paradox that Neon faces is whether it should remain aligned and upright or whether it should tilt forwards or backwards into the material world of duality, ruled by time and its consequent wants and needs.

This remedy state may emerge in cases of babies treated for jaundice from overexposure to neon lights for example. It has proved clinically useful for ailments ranging from carpal tunnel syndrome to cases of lack of coordination, ADD and even HIV/AIDS. You can learn more about homeopathic provings in general on my homeopathy page. Here you’ll also find out about a proving of a very special water remedy that I conducted. It is available for purchase as a downloadable pdf. All proceeds go towards charity.
