Why the Peregrine Falcon?

Well, before I discovered my passion for painting, I worked as a homeopath. Homeopathy is a gentle alternative healing system of medicine that can profoundly shift a person’s life and restore the individual’s health on all levels physical, emotional and mental. I spent many years treating clients and studying remedies sourced from the natural world. What I observed was truly astonishing. I saw so many women come alive, change course, and embark on a different life path after finding a remedy that fit their unique symptom picture.

One remedy that particularly interested me is called Falco Peregrinus. This remedy was prepared by one of my teachers, Misha Norland at the School of Homeopathy in 1998. The remedy was sourced from a Peregrine Tiercel that had been bred in captivity and trained to hunt in the traditional way.

Falconry

Falconry is an ancient art. The sport is still practiced in parts of the Middle East. In fact, I recently came across some bedouins who are adept at it.

I am particularly interested in this remedy as this noble raptor finds a home where I live in Jordan. Moreover, a free falcon and I crossed paths while I was on holiday in Egypt a few years ago.

Mythology Associated with Falco

Many cultures regard it as a mystic bird and a messenger from another realm. North American Indians for instance believe it to be a source of guidance from the spirit world. Indeed, there is much mythology associated with this creature from the avian realm.

Horus

One recalls Horus, the ancient Egyptian falcon headed deity. Horus means ‘that which is above’.

As the story goes, Osiris ruled Egypt with his sister-wife Isis. Peace and prosperity abounded during their reign, which gave rise to their brother Seth’s jealousy. The royal couple hid their son Horus from his wicked uncle in the papyrus marshes of the Nile Delta. When he came of age, his mother encouraged him to reclaim his kingdom that was usurped by Seth. As a sky god, Horus’ right eye was said to represent the sun, and his left eye the moon.

In one of their battles, with Seth, Horus’ left eye was shattered. Thoth restored the eye to perfection through magic and it became the Udjat, a human eye surrounded by the Falcon’s facial markings, symbolizing perfection, protection and purification.

Falconry

Falconry is an ancient art. The sport is still very much alive in parts of the Middle East. In fact, I recently came across some bedouins who are adept at it. The Peregrine falcon is not surprisingly the fastest creature on earth. It is stronger and faster in the air than eagles or hawks due to proportionally longer and narrower wings. The bird will dive or ‘stoop’ towards its prey at a speed of up to 200 miles per hour and is able to kill its prey instantly with a bite to the back of the neck. Pigeons are its favourite meal.

The tension of opposites that arise in the homeopathic remedy Falco peregrinus, or the Peregrine falcon.

The Falcon’s Healing Potential

Homeopathic remedies are understood by way of the tension of opposites that they represent. For Falco Peregrinus, the polarity not surprisingly lies between freedom on the one hand and feeling trapped on the other.

I have used the remedy Falco peregrinus also known as Falco-p successfully in practice. The clients who came to me needing this remedy tended to be women who for whatever reason felt trapped by their life situation. The people who need this remedy tend to have a great sense of injustice which can give rise to fury.

The beauty of homeopathy is that the homeopath sets out to find a remedy that addresses the client’s inner tension of opposites that causes internal havoc. A remedy essentially acts as a mirror. By mirroring the internal imbalance in the individual, clinical experience has shown that a sense of dynamic harmony is restored and a return to health ensues.

Fly Free is a mixed media art online class to help you believe in you.

How would it feel to be free?

Think about it - what would you do if you were free? Freedom means different things to different people. Perhaps you need financial freedom. It could be you feel shackled by the drudgery of your present job. Maybe you need to to break away from an abusive relationship. Alternatively, you may feel the need to express a part of you that has been asleep for a very long time. What does freedom mean for you?

What would your life look like if you could connect to your inner guiding system?

Now imagine finding a place deep within that has all the answers you’ve been searching for. This is what I like to call your inner compass. This is the part of you that simply knows. It is what will guide you onto the path that you are meant for. It will show you the way and will bring you opportunities that can open many doors for you. Your job is to be attentive, tune in and trust this quiet voice.

I’ve found this inner knowing emerges when you are in a state of presence. Unfortunately, most of our days are spent rushing around attending to ‘more important things’. We are pulled right out of our centres by the demands of life. Technology also takes up most of our attention. How many people do you see around you staring at their mobile phone screens?

Painting can help you begin to turn your gaze inward and become present.

Art is another amazing pursuit that can help you change direction, turn around and begin to gaze inward. What do you see? Mixing colour and painting is a magical process that can turn your whole life around. Why? Because it is puts you in a frame of mind where you are fully aware in the moment. It awakens all your senses and brings you into close contact with your inner guiding compass.

I practice the classical Japanese martial art of Iaido - the art of drawing the sword. That is another activity where you have to be fully there to avoid cutting yourself while practicing with a razor sharp blade. However, I’ve found that painting brings me into a state of presence more fully believe it or not. I remember a new student came into our art studio once and started talking to me. My art teacher at the time pointed out that I was so focused on the painting I was working on that apart from a quick welcoming greeting, I was in another sphere altogether.

The healing paths of homeopathy and painting.

I created a mixed media online course that combines my passion for the healing as well as the visual arts. FLY FREE is unique because it will take you on an inner journey into the world of Falco Peregrinus, an incredible raptor that has much to teach you. Through a series of creative painting exercises and reflection sheets, you will be guided on a journey of self exploration to discover what your gifts are and how you can use them to make a difference in the world.

Are you ready to tune in and uncover your true potential?

For you to know where your path lies, you need to be fully awake. Painting can help awaken your soul and support your quest for self knowledge.

Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”

- RAMANA MAHARSHI

My journey into the healing arts took me on a circuitous path that brought me full circle back to art. I had put all my creative talents to sleep early on in my teens. After a 30 year period of dormancy, my creativity erupted almost overnight to my utmost surprise. It was a delightful rediscovery. FLY FREE emerged out of this cathartic experience and I can’t wait to share all that I have learnt with you. If you would like to learn more about the journey that brought me back to art click below.
